BIDEFORD (SHEBBERTON) GREYHOUND STADIUM
This site is not an official website for the track shown here and is neither approved or endorsed by the stadium. I am indebted to Richard English for helping to construct this page. |
The Devon town of Bideford has had 2 greyhound tracks in the past, the first of which was in nearby Shebberton at 4° 15' W 51° 1' N. The village boasted its own racecourse, which opened in 1922 and closed in 1925, but within 5 years there was a greyhound track as well. The independently run flapping track held its inaugural meeting in September 1927, and held standard races over 475 and 525 yards, distance races over 575 yards and extended races over 650 yards. |
The track stopped trading in 1933. |
I am grateful to Jon Seddon for the following link to a map showing the whereabouts of the old track |
This section gives a comprehensive picture of
the badges produced by the track throughout the ages, but only provides the briefest of
glimpses of its history. For those wishing to undertake further research we can recommend
a visit to http://astore.amazon.co.uk/wwwgreyhoundd-21 where further reading can be undertaken. |
